Litho Bram Van Velde

Bram Van Velde, the strength to paint

Bram Van Velde was born in 1895 in Zoeterwoude, in the Netherlands. He came from a poor family. Self-taught, he was drawn to painting at a very young age. At the age of twelve, Bram Van Velde worked as an apprentice in a painting and decoration studio. He was greatly influenced by the German Expressionists, and received the influence of Matisse once he was in Paris. After the war, the artist fully mastered the plastic arts language, which will characterize all his works. His life experiences and his feelings materialized his conception of space in his works, all tinged with his personality. He passed away in 1981 in Grimaud.
